The Secret of Snow by Viola Shipman @graydonhouse @harlequinbooks @viola_shipman #bookreview #5starread #fiction #excerpt

Overview

From the USA Today bestselling author of The Summer Cottage

“A beautifully written story about second chances. Fans of women’s fiction won’t be able to put this down.” —Publishers Weekly

The forecast is calling for a reluctant homecoming and regrettable decisions with a strong chance of romance

When Sonny Dunes, a SoCal meteorologist whose job is all sunshine and seventy-two-degree days, is replaced by a virtual meteorologist that will never age, gain weight or renegotiate its contract, the only station willing to give the fifty-year-old another shot is the very place Sonny’s been avoiding since the day she left for college—her northern Michigan hometown.

Sonny grudgingly returns to the long, cold, snowy winters of her childhood…with the added humiliation of moving back in with her mother. Not quite an outsider but no longer a local, Sonny finds her past blindsiding her everywhere: from the high school friends she ghosted, to the former journalism classmate and mortal frenemy who’s now her boss, to, most keenly, the death years ago of her younger sister, who loved the snow.

To distract herself from the memories she’s spent her life trying to outrun, Sonny throws herself headfirst into covering every small-town winter event to woo a new audience, made more bearable by a handsome widower with optimism to spare. But with someone trying to undermine her efforts to rebuild her career, Sonny must make peace with who she used to be and allow her heart to thaw if she’s ever going to find a place she can truly call home.

Review

Sonny Dunes is on top of the weather news world until she is replaced by a robot. She kind of loses it and goes ballistic. And, as you can guess, this goes viral. She tucks her tail and runs home to her native Michigan. She ends up at a local news station with an old college acquaintance. But things do not go as smoothly as she hopes. Sonny has a lot of baggage, more baggage than she actually thought. She must now face her past and come to terms with her own loss.

Sonny is a character which I can relate to. She is an overachiever but she is also flawed. Like most people, she keeps a lot of people at arms length because she is so afraid of being hurt again and letting people down. But, she is strong and she continues to fight.

This is one of Viola Shipman’s best! This is a tale about learning to live with regrets, death and forgiving yourself. There are so many profound statements in this read. This is a story everyone needs to read at some point in their life. This story is so multilayered and very well written. I can go on and on about this…JUST READ IT!

Need a fantastic story which will make you understand so much about yourself and others. GRAB YOUR COPY TODAY!

I received this novel from the publisher for a honest review.

Excerpt

“And look at this! A storm system is making its way across the country, and it will bring heavy snow to the Upper Midwest and Great Lakes before wreaking havoc on the East Coast. This is an especially early and nasty start to winter for much of the country. In fact, early models indicate that parts of western and northern Michigan—the lake effect snowbelts, as we call them—will receive over 150 inches of snow this year. One hundred fifty inches!”

I turn away from the green screen in my red wrap dress and heels.

“But here in the desert…” I wait for the graphic to pop onscreen, which declares, Sonny Says It’s Sonny… Again!

When the camera refocuses on me, I toss an adhesive sunshine with my face on it toward the green screen behind me. It sticks directly on Palm Springs, California.

“…it’s wall-to-wall sunshine!”

I expand my arms like a raven in the mountains taking flight. The weekly forecast pops up. Every day features a smiling sunshine that resembles yours truly: golden, shining, beaming.

“And it will stay that way all week long, with temperatures in the midseventies and lows in the midfifties. Not bad for this time of year, huh? It’s chamber of commerce weather here in the desert, perfect for all those design lovers in town for Mid-Century Modernism Week.” I walk over to the news desk. The camera follows. I lean against the desk and turn to the news anchors, Eva Fernandez and Cliff Moore. “Or for someone who loves to play golf, right, Cliff?”

He laughs his faux laugh, the one that makes his mouth resemble those old windup chattering teeth from when I was a girl.

“You betcha, Sonny!”

“That’s why we live here, isn’t it?” I ask.

“I sure feel sorry for the rest of the country,” says Eva, her blinding white smile as bright as the camera lights. I’m convinced every one of Eva’s caps has a cap.

“Those poor Michigan folk won’t be golfing in shorts like I will be tomorrow, will they?” Cliff says with a laugh and his pantomime golf swing. He twitches his bushy brows and gives me a giant wink. “Thank you, Sonny Dunes.”

I nod, my hands on my hips as if I’m a Price Is Right model and not a meteorologist.

“Martinis on the mountain? Yes, please,” Eva says with her signature head tilt. “Next on the news: a look at some of the big events at this year’s Mid-Century Modernism Week. Back in a moment.”

I end the newscast with the same forecast—a row of smiling sunshine emojis that look just like my face—and then banter with the anchors about the perfect pool temperature before another graphic—THE DESERT’S #1 NIGHTLY NEWS TEAM!—pops onto the screen, and we fade to commercial.

“Anyone want to go get a drink?” Cliff asks within seconds of the end of the newscast. “It’s Friday night.”

“It’s always Friday night to you, Cliff,” Eva says.

She stands and pulls off her mic. The top half of Eva Fernandez is J.Lo perfection: luminescent locks, long lashes, glam gloss, a skintight top in emerald that matches her eyes, gold jewelry that sets off her glowing skin. But Eva’s bottom half is draped in sweats, her feet in house slippers. It’s the secret viewers never see.

“I’m half dressed for bed already anyway,” she says with a dramatic sigh. Eva is very dramatic. “And I’m hosting the Girls Clubs Christmas breakfast tomorrow and then Eisenhower Hospital’s Hope for the Holidays fundraiser tomorrow night. And Sonny and I are doing every local Christmas parade the next few weekends. You should think about giving back to the community, Cliff.”

“Oh, I do,” he says. “I keep small business alive in Palm Springs. Wouldn’t be a bar afloat without my support.”

Cliff roars, setting off his chattering teeth.

I call Cliff “The Unicorn” because he was actually born and raised in Palm Springs. He didn’t migrate here like the older snowbirds to escape the cold, he didn’t snap up midcentury houses with cash like the Silicon Valley techies who realized this was a real estate gold mine, and he didn’t suddenly “discover” how hip Palm Springs was like the millennials who flocked here for the Coachella Music Festival and to catch a glimpse of Drake, Beyoncé or the Kardashians.

No, Cliff is old school. He was Palm Springs when tumbleweed still blew right through downtown, when Bob Hope pumped gas next to you and when Frank Sinatra might take a seat beside you at the bar, order a martini and nobody acted like it was a big deal.

I admire Cliff because—

The set suddenly spins, and I have to grab the arm of a passing sound guy to steady myself. He looks at me, and I let go.

—he didn’t run away from where he grew up.

“How about you, sunshine?” Cliff asks me. “Wanna grab a drink?”

“I’m gonna pass tonight, Cliff. I’m wiped from this week. Rain check?”

“Never rains in the desert, sunshine,” Cliff jokes. “You oughta know that.”

He stops and looks at me. “What would Frank Sinatra do?”

I laugh. I adore Cliff’s corniness.

“You’re not Frank Sinatra,” Eva calls.

“My martini awaits with or without you.” Cliff salutes, as if he’s Bob Hope on a USO tour, and begins to walk out of the studio.

“Ratings come in this weekend!” a voice yells. “That’s when we party.”

We all turn. Our producer, Ronan, is standing in the middle of the studio. Ronan is all of thirty. He’s dressed in flip-flops, board shorts and a T-shirt that says, SUNS OUT, GUNS OUT! like he just returned from Coachella. Oh, and he’s wearing sunglasses. At night. In a studio that’s gone dim. Ronan is the grandson of the man who owns our network, DSRT. Jack Clark of ClarkStar pretty much owns every network across the US these days. He put his grandson in charge because Ro-Ro’s father bought an NFL franchise, and he’s too obsessed with his new fancy toy to pay attention to his old fancy toy. Before DSRT, Ronan was a surfer living in Hawaii who found it hard to believe there wasn’t an ocean in the middle of the California desert.

He showed up to our very first official news meeting wearing a tank top with an arrow pointing straight up that read, This Dude’s the CEO!

“You can call me Ro-Ro,” he’d announced upon introduction.

“No,” Cliff said. “I can’t.”

Ronan had turned his bleary gaze upon me and said, “Yo. Weather’s, like, not really my thing. You can just, like, look outside and see what’s going on. And it’s, like, on my phone. Just so we’re clear…get it? Like the weather.”

My heart nearly stopped. “People need to know how to plan their days, sir,” I protested. “Weather is a vital part of all our lives. It’s daily news. And, what I study and disseminate can save lives.”

“Ratings party if we’re still number one!” Ronan yells, knocking me from my thoughts.

I look at Eva, and she rolls her eyes. She sidles up next to me and whispers, “You know all the jokes about millennials? He’s the punchline for all of them.”

I stifle a laugh.

We walk each other to the parking lot.

“See you Monday,” I say.

“Are we still wearing our matching Santa hats for the parade next Saturday?”

I laugh and nod. “We’re his best elves,” I say.

“You mean his sexiest news elves,” she says. She winks and waves, and I watch her shiny SUV pull away. I look at my car and get inside with a smile. Palm Springs locals are fixated on their cars. Not the make or the color, but the cleanliness. Since there is so little rain in Palm Springs, locals keep their cars washed and polished constantly. It’s like a competition.

I pull onto Dinah Shore Drive and head toward home.

Palm Springs is dark. There is a light ordinance in the city that limits the number of streetlights. In a city this beautiful, it would be a crime to have tall posts obstructing the view of the mountains or bright light overpowering the brightness of the stars.

I decide to cut through downtown Palm Springs to check out the Friday night action. I drive along Palm Canyon Drive, the main strip in town. The restaurants are packed. People sit outside in shorts—in December!—enjoying a glass of wine. Music blasts from bars. Palm Springs is alive, the town teeming with life even near midnight.

I stop at a red light, and a bachelorette party in sashes and tiaras pulls up next to me peddling a party bike. It’s like a self-propelled trolley with seats and pedals, but you can drink—a lot—on it. I call these party trolleys “Woo-Hoo Bikes” because…

I honk and wave.

The bachelorette party shrieks, holds up their glasses and yells, “WOO-HOO!”

The light changes, and I take off, knowing these ladies will likely find themselves in a load of trouble in about an hour, probably at a tiki bar where the drinks are as deadly as the skulls on the glasses.

I continue north on Palm Canyon—heading past Copley’s Restaurant, which once was Cary Grant’s guesthouse in the 1940s, and a plethora of design and vintage home furnishings stores. I stop at another light and glance over as an absolutely filthy SUV, which looks like it just ended a mud run, pulls up next to me. The front window is caked in gray-white sludge and the doors are encrusted in crud. An older man is hunched over the steering wheel, wearing a winter coat, and I can see the woman seated next to him pointing at the navigation on the dashboard. I know immediately they are not only trying to find their Airbnb on one of the impossible-to-locate side streets in Palm Springs, but also that they are from somewhere wintry, somewhere cold, somewhere the sun doesn’t shine again until May.

Which state? I wonder, as the light changes, and the car pulls ahead of me.

“Bingo!” I yell in my car. “Michigan license plates!”

We all run from Michigan in the winter.

I look back at the road in front of me, and it’s suddenly blurry. A car honks, scaring the wits out of me, and I shake my head clear, wave an apology and head home.

Seven Dirty Secrets by Natalie D. Richards #audible #audiobook #5starreview @dreamscapeaudio @natdrichards

Overview

I know seven dirty secrets: One caused the fall. One did nothing. One saw it all. One didn’t care. One used their head. One played the hero. One was left for dead.

On her 18th birthday, Cleo receives a mysterious invitation to a scavenger hunt. She’s sure her best friend, Hope, or her brother, Connor, is behind it, but no one confesses. And as Cleo and Hope embark on the hunt, the seemingly random locations and clues begin to feel familiar. In fact, all of the clues seem to be about Cleo’s dead boyfriend, Declan, who drowned on a group rafting trip exactly a year ago: a bracelet she bought him, a song he loved, a photo of the rafting group, taken just before Declan drowned.

And then the phone calls start, Declan’s voice taunting Cleo with a cryptic question: You ready? As the clock on the scavenger hunt ticks down, it becomes clear that someone knows what really happened to Declan. And that person will stop at nothing to make sure Cleo and her friends pay. Can they solve the hunt before someone else winds up dead?

Review

It is Cleo’s birthday! A gift with a strange message is left in the bathroom while she is in the shower. She calls everyone she knows and no one has left it for her. So, she and her best friend decide to follow the message in the gift. Well, this leads them on a scavenger hunt with a possible deadly end!

Talk about intense! This story is intense from front to back! Cleo is a young girl with a tragic past. The author does a fabulous job slowly untangling Cleo’s past for the reader. This just adds to the intensity, add in the creepy gifts that keep arriving for the scavenger hunt, my stomach was in knots! And then the ENDING! OH MY!

The narrator, Natasha Soudek, absolutely MADE this book. She became the character Cleo. I am now on the look out this narrator. She is one of the best! And, I have never read this author (oh my!) I have now added her books to my tbr list!

The Women of Pearl Island by Polly Crosby @parkrowbooks #bookreview

Book Summary:

With the same atmosphere and imagination of THE BOOK OF HIDDEN WONDERS, Polly Crosby’s new novel, THE WOMEN OF PEARL ISLAND is set on a lush, secluded island where family secrets bring together an unlikely friendship.

On a secluded island off the British coast, an elderly woman named Marianne collects butterflies and memories from her past. No longer able to catch butterflies herself, she enlists the help of a young woman named Tartelin who has peculiar birthmark on her cheek. Tartelin’s mother has recently passed, leaving her unmoored and eager for new beginnings on the island.

Marianne has spent most of her life on the island, her family having owned it for generations. She begins to tell her young assistant her family’s story – from the prosperous days when they harvested pearls and held banquets, to the harder times and her father’s desperatemoney-making schemes. But during WWII, the British government commandeered the island for nuclear testing and they were all forced to leave. Though, secret to everyone, Marianne stayed behind and experienced something she calls “the blast,” an event that changed everything for her. Now, the older woman is obsessed with tracking the changes in butterflies and other creatures on the island to prove what she witnessed so many decades before.

With a mystery spanning decades, this is an emotional and atmospheric story of a young woman coming into her own as she forges an unlikely friendship with her employer, both women grieving their pasts and together, embracing a new future.

Review

Marianne has finally returned to her beloved Pearl Island after years of being away. Her family had been forced off the island during WWII due to nuclear testing. Marianne is determined to find out about her obsession, her butterflies. How have they survived and changed?

Marianne hires a young girl, Tartelin, to help her. Marianne is very old and cannot explore the island like she wishes. So, Tartelin will be her eyes and ears. Needless to say, both of these ladies are hiding a lot in their past and as they get to know each other, these secrets come out!

There is such beauty in this story. I felt like I was right there on the island experiencing everything Tartelin experienced. It is so well written and extraordinary! I fell completely in love with this island and the unique characters. The only issue I have is there is almost no plot. Well, maybe I should say, it is slow moving. There is a bit of mystery surrounding Marianne and Tartelin. It is just a minor part of the story. But, there is just something about the way this novel is written, the plot really didn’t matter much. The island, Marianne and Tartelin is all that is needed.

Need a beautiful escape…THIS IS IT! Grab your copy today!

Love, Theodosia by Lori Anne Goldstein #audiobook #audiblebook #bookreview #historicalfiction

Overview

Romeo and Juliet tale for Hamilton fans.

Love, Theodosia is a smart, funny, swoony take on a fiercely intelligent woman (Aaron Burr’s daughter, Theodosia) with feminist ideas and ideals far ahead of her time. Not only a work of well-researched historical fiction, but a refreshing spin on the Hamiltonian era and the characters we have grown to know and love so well. Goldstein shines a bright light on Theodosia, who has long deserved center stage, a young woman struggling to be heard in a turbulent time for our nation. It’s also a heartbreaking romance of two star-crossed lovers, an achingly bittersweet “what if”.

In Love Theodosia, Alexander Hamilton’s son Philip and Burr’s daughter Theodosia become smitten, though she is engaged to an artist and Philip is a rakish cad. But the two find each other’s intellect irresistible, and in what unrolls like a Jane Austen novel of manners we find ourselves entangled with the Hamilton family once again as the children of famous enemies are driven together despite every reason not to be.

Review

Theodosia is the daughter of Aaron Burr. And this comes with some baggage. Her mother has passed away and Theodosia must stand in her place beside her father during all his political ambitions. This puts a huge strain on her life. But, when she falls in love with her dad’s arch enemy’s son, Philip, it changes all of her thoughts and perceptions.

Theodosia is a strong female character back when females were considered simpering idiots. However, she fought against the norm the best way she knew how. She wrote articles under a pen name to help women. So, to say I loved her…that is putting it mildly. I found her fascinating and very intelligent.

This is my least favorite time period, early America. But, I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I loved learning about how politics worked back then (not much has changed!) I also enjoyed reading about the daily life of Theodosia and what kind of pawn she became. I fluctuated between 4 and 5 stars. The only reason I settled on 4 was because it was a bit long and parts were a little overly dramatic. Now, this could be attributed to the narrator. But, I didn’t get that as an overall feeling from the book.

I did enjoy the narrator, Allyson Voller. She was excellent with all the male voices, tough to do!

Overview

Bad things don’t happen in Cason Glen.

They are supposed to be safe.

But they quickly realize not everything is as it once seemed in their idyllic world.

Slowly, the cracks have begun to show, revealing the dark and devious truth behind their home, their neighbors, and the lengths some people will go to protect their secrets.

Someone’s missing.

Someone’s dead.

Everyone’s lying.

In a town full of masterfully woven webs, these six friends are about to watch their world unravel. And, if they’re not careful, one of them might be the next to disappear….

When everyone you know is a liar, how do you decide whom to trust?

Review

Someone…or everyone is lying in Cason Glen. Stephanie’s husband is missing. But, she knows something is just not right. She makes a false report about a car going into the town lake hoping the authorities will drag the lake and possibly put an end to her nightmare. When the law comes to question her, she reneges on her statement. But, her husband is still missing!

There are so many secrets in this novel. You just don’t know who to believe. Honestly, everyone seems to be everyone’s friend and they are all one big, happy town. Well! They are not! Everyone is lying to everyone.

This is a twisted story and the ending is completely worth it. However, this novel fell short for me. I just did not like any of the characters, especially the teenage boys. But, it is fast paced and the narrators, Mandy Kaplan, Wyatt Baker, did a very good job!

The Christmas Escape by Sarah Morgan @harlequinbooks #christmasromance #bookreview #fiction

THE CHRISTMAS ESCAPE

Author: Sarah Morgan

ISBN: 9781335462817

Publication Date: October 26, 2021

Publisher: HQN Books

Book Summary:

This Christmas, be whisked away by USA Today bestselling author Sarah Morgan in this uplifting novel of friendship, the festive season, and risking everything for the biggest gift of all…

Christy and Alix are forever-friends. Not even Alix’s well-meant but badly-timed intervention the night before Christy’s wedding has put a dent in their bond. There’s nothing Alix won’t do for the woman who helped fill the hole in her heart left by her own family’s rejection. But taking Christy’s boisterous little daughter Holly on holiday to Lapland, days before Christmas, is a huge ask. Marketing whizz Alix might know how to turn toys into million-dollar Christmas bestsellers, but the responsibility of parenthood terrifies her. And unfortunately, she’ll have a witness to her ineptitude, in the annoyingly delicious shape of Zac, Holly’s father’s best friend, who will also be there…

Christy had hoped this year would be her dream Christmas, in her dream new family house. Instead, it’s turning into the nightmare before Christmas, with a frightening list of household repairs, no money, and a make-or-break crisis in her marriage. Even worse, it’s a crisis of her own making, and one that is on her shoulders to fix. With best friend Alix coming to the rescue and looking after Holly, Christy will finally have time to focus on rebuilding her relationship.

As Alix confronts her fears and finds unexpected romance under the Northern Lights, and Christy fights to save her marriage, could it be that their Christmas holiday opens their eyes, and their hearts, to what they’ve always wanted?

Review

Christy’s only surviving relative is her aunt, Robyn. Christy has never met Robyn. But, Christy needs an escape. So she takes the bull by the horns and reaches out to Robyn. Life turns on a dime, and Christy sends her daughter ahead of her with her friend, Alix. What could go wrong? Need to read this and find out!

This novel follows three characters, Christy, Alix and Robyn. So, it was a bit confusing and it took a while to get all of it pulled together. However, when all the links finally came together it was wonderful, it just took too long to get there.

I did find Alix pretty dang funny. And the twists and turns made this story dramatic. Plus, the author did a great job keeping the Christmas spirit running throughout this tale!

This is not my favorite Sarah Morgan book. But I did like it ok…I may be a bit tired of Christmas reads at this point. So, read it and form your own opinion.

Need a sweet, fun, Christmas romance…THIS IS IT! Grab your copy today.

The Wrong Kind of Woman – COVER REVEAL @suzyapbooktours @sarahmcrow #coverreveal

About The Book:

Paperback Release Date: July 19, 2022

A powerful exploration of what a woman can be when what she should be is no longer an option

In late 1970, Oliver Desmarais drops dead in his front yard while hanging Christmas lights. In the year that follows, his widow, Virginia, struggles to find her place on the campus of Clarendon College, the elite men’s college where Oliver was a professor. While Virginia had always shared her husband’s prejudices against the four outspoken, never-married women on the faculty—dubbed The Gang of Four by their male counterparts—she now finds herself depending on them, even joining their work to bring the women’s movement to Clarendon.

Meanwhile, Virginia’s thirteen-year-old daughter, Rebecca, is adrift in a world without her dad and hates the woman her mother is becoming. And junior Sam Waxman, reeling from the death of his favorite professor, falls in love with a magnetic activist bent on effecting change by any means necessary.

Soon, reports of violent protests across the country reach this sleepy New England town, stirring tensions between the fraternal establishment of Clarendon and those calling for change. As authorities attempt to tamp down “radical elements,” Virginia must decide whether she’s willing to put herself and her family at risk for a cause that had never felt like her own.

Told through alternating perspectives, The Wrong Kind of Woman is an engrossing story of grief and renewal, of shedding old identities and finding new ways to belong, beautifully woven against the backdrop of the rapid changes of the early Seventies.

About The Author:

“In her entrancing debut, McCraw Crow traces the impact of second-wave feminism and the antiwar movement in the early 1970s on a New Hampshire college campus. . . . The choice to present the characters’ desperate actions in shades of gray makes for engrossing reading.” —Publishers Weekly
“Readers will soar through the smoothly written prose and empathize with the strong characters. Suggest to those who loved Jennifer Weiner’s Mrs.Everything.” —Booklist

“A strong, strident message delivered in a valentine of a book that is easy to read and enjoy, but with enough gentle grit and determination to keep you thinking about Virginia and the Gang of Four long after the last page is read.” —BookReporter
“The Wrong Kind of Woman explores the sublimation of self within a marriage, sexism in the workplace and the pros and cons of activism versus revolution. These are heady topics, but this slow burn of a novel proves a perfect place to give them serious thought.” —BookPage

Beautifully written… Timely and pressing… McCraw Crow deftly navigates the campus and national politics of the ’70s. —Amy Meyerson, bestselling author of The Imperfects

“How could I not devour a book set in my favorite era? About family, marriage, love and grief and a country in the turbulent flux of change, The Wrong Kind of Woman limns the lives of a stunned widow, her daughter and a student as they all struggle to come to terms with death—and life—against the backdrop of the Vietnam war, Kent State, the drug culture, and the first heady rise of the women’s movement. Absolutely fabulous.” —Caroline Leavitt, New York Times bestselling author of Pictures of You and Cruel Beautiful World

It’s not going to be easy, but when she finds the perfect place to open her dream motorcycle shop, she goes for it. What she doesn’t expect is an abandoned pit bull to come with the building. Delaney isn’t used to lasting relationships, but letting love in – both human and canine – helps her see that she may have found a place she belongs, forever.

Review

Delaney has retired from the Marine Corps. She has decided to open up her own motorcycle shop. It has been her dream for quite a while. She found the perfect place to rent and she is ready to roll. However, an abandoned dog keeps showing up. Delaney is smitten! But, not long after she has opens her shop, her antique motorcycle is stolen. Enter detective Sean Callahan! Can Delaney let him in too?!?

Now, I am not a fan of motorcycles. So, I really didn’t think this would appeal to me. And there is a good bit of motorcycle talk. But, I found it fascinating, especially about the antique bikes. Something I didn’t know…I enjoy learning something new. Add in the chemistry between these characters and you have a good tale!

I discovered this author last year when I was asked to review Rescue You . I enjoyed that book so much, I could not wait to read this one. And this one did not disappoint. I love how she incorporates animals and the armed services into her stories. Always makes for really good, heartwarming reads!

November Escapes and Escapades #novemberwrapup #wrapup #escapesandescapades

ESCAPADES

Well, well, well, we are almost finished with 2021! Can you believe it! This year has flown by! But November moved even faster than I expected! I had an absolutely fantastic month! I went to the beach by myself! It was amazing. I have not done that in years and everyone needs to get away by themselves sometime.

My husband and I also went to see Dwight Yoakum (don’t judge!) at Graceland in Memphis. He has never been through the mansion (and he has lived within 100 miles of it his whole life!🤦🏻‍♀️) So, we toured Graceland and we even spent the night in the hotel there. It was a wonderful weekend get away!

Now…on to the

ESCAPES

What a wonderful reading month. Now, I am listening to more audible books than I am physically reading at the present time. Basically because I am semi-retired and I am wanting to do some crafty stuff. I have been knitting….I know, I know….but I am addicted!

So….now on to the wonderful books and audible books for November!

A Fire In the Night
Mary Jane
The Stolen Baby
Woodrow on the Bench
The Pilot’s Daughter
The Hunger Of Crows
The Encanto
The Christmas Wedding
The Hawthorne School
Freedom Lessons
Walking Among the Trees

I also finished these books….I will not review these but just know….they are excellent!

Stay tuned for these upcoming reviews

THANKS FOR STOPPING BY! Now on to December!

Walking Among the Trees by Frank Michale Olivia #review #bookreview #fiction @suzyapbooktours

Overview

After notifying the bishop that a young girl possessed by an invisible demon must be exorcised immediately, Father Nathaniel Kerrigan is shocked when the bishop insists he perform the ritual. Panicked, Kerrigan calls on his old friend and trusted mentor, Monsignor Carmichael, to convince the bishop he should use another priest instead. But when Kerrigan claims he wants out because he has no experience with the preternatural, Carmichael fears there is much more at stake than Kerrigan’s letting on. As Carmichael drags Kerrigan on a dark and painful journey through a secluded nature preserve, it soon becomes clear the real reason Kerrigan is so desperate to avoid the confrontation is that the demon inside the girl has a window into his hidden past.

Review

Father Nathaniel Kerrigan has been ordered to attend an exorcism of a very young girl. He has some major reservations. So, he asks to have a chat with his friend and mentor, Monsignor Carmichael. It is during this chat that the past comes to light and Kerrigan has some things hidden from all!

This book is creepy and a little weird….but so unique and fascinating. I was so caught up in the backstory. I wanted to know why Kerrigan was so hesitant. At first you think it is because it’s and exorcism. But, then you realize there is much more to this story!

There are so many twists and turns in this story you just can’t stop reading. And add in that ending….and oh boy!

About The Author:

Frank Michael Oliva is a practicing attorney and law professor from Long Island, New York. As a teenager, he worked as a receptionist at the rectory of his local parish and developed a close relationship with one of the priests, a former English teacher. Their philosophical conversations about the nature of good and evil left a lasting impression on Frank and inspired him to write his first novel, Walking Among the Trees, nearly two decades later. When he isn’t busy working or writing, Frank can be found spending time with his wife and twin children, reading, or playing video games.
