About Erin Rhew

Erin Rhew is an editor, a running coach, and the author of The Fulfillment Series. Since she picked up Morris the Moose Goes to School at age four, she has been infatuated with the written

word. She went on to work as a grammar and writing tutor in college and is still teased by her family and friends for being a member of the “Grammar Police.”

A Southern girl by blood and birth, Erin now lives in a rainy pocket of the Pacific Northwest with the amazingly talented (and totally handsome) writer Deek Rhew and their “overly fluffy,” patient-as-a-saint writing assistant, a tabby cat named Trinity. She and Deek enjoy reading aloud to one another, running, lifting, boxing, eating chocolate, and writing side-by- side.

He and Erin love to share books by reading aloud to one another. In addition, they enjoy spending time with friends, running, boxing, lifting weights, and exploring the little town–with antique shops and bakeries–they call home.

The House by the Lake by Ella Carey

OVERVIEW

Anna is content with her well-ordered life in San Francisco. But her world is turned upside down when her beloved grandfather, Max, reveals a startling secret: Anna is part of an aristocratic family who lost everything during World War II. What’s more, Max was forced to leave behind a precious item over seventy years ago in their estate in old Prussia. It’s now his ardent wish that Anna retrieve it.

Anna burns with questions as she heads for Germany: What memento could be so important to her grandfather? And why did he keep their history hidden? As she searches for answers, she finds herself drawn to Wil, a man who may hold the key to unlock the mystery. Together they discover that her family’s secrets are linked with an abandoned apartment in Paris, and these secrets go deeper than she ever imagined.

Alternating between 1930s Europe and the present, The House by the Lake illuminates the destiny of a family caught in the tumult of history.

REVIEW

Anna’s grandfather asks her to go to Germany and retrieve something from his childhood home. She has a very cool reception from the town. Come to find out, her grandfather may not be the person she thought.

This story kept me reading late into the night and thinking about it during the day at work!!! GASP!! I could visualize the house in Germany and I so wanted to be there. And to know the story is loosely based on a real house made it all the more intriguing.

The characters kept me coming back for more. I loved Anna from the start. When she met Wil….that just took me over the edge. I could just picture them exploring the house working together to overcome the obstacles ahead.

The ending is a little too tidy for me. Anna needs to struggle a little more to find out what happened to her grandfather during WWWII. Instead she finds out in one visit with someone. It would have added a lot to the tale if she had more of an adventure to figure out the mystery. But…..this is just a minor observation and completely my opinion.

I loved, loved, loved this book. The mystery, the house, the setting, the characters all meld together to make a tale I could not stop thinking about.

The Old World – By the Hands of Men Book #1 by Roy M. Griffis

Overview

Lieutenant Robert Fitzgerald has managed to retain his sanity, his humanity, and his honor during the hell of WWI’s trench warfare. Charlotte Braninov fled the shifting storm of the impending Russian Revolution for the less-threatening world of field camp medicine, serving as a nurse in the most hopeless of fronts. Their friendship creates a sanctuary both could cling to in the most desperate of times. Historical fiction about life, loss, and love, By the Hands of Men explores the power that lies within each of us to harm – or to heal – all those we touch.

Review

Charlotte is a nurse in WWI. She experiences all the tragedy and the horrors of war. And then her “knight”, as she likes to refer to him, helps her through a horrible experience.  Their love grows….until….

I love the time period of this story. I have not read many novels set in WWI so, this was a real treat. I enjoyed reading  about the hospital and the aid station. The struggles of the men and the women to overcome all obstacles to save a life are really amazing to read and the author did a fabulous job expressing this.

Anna is a strong woman character and I love those. She is hard working, even though she is a Russian aristocrat. She and Robert have a remarkable connection right from the start. Then something…and I will not reveal a spoiler… happens and leaves them estranged.  I cannot wait to read the second book in this series. I must know how everything turns out.

There are a few places in the story where I wanted to know more. There should have been more. Then there are places the author expounds and it is not relevant to the story. However, the ending is perfect. A great lead in to the next in the series.

I received this novel from the author for a honest review.

Valo needs a specific solution to a grave problem. The human Claimfold and prigon Torzsi draw apart. War is promised in the West. Worst of all, the magi of Nagyevo are meddling with the dead.

Perin is an apprentice Gravedigger: uneducated, unwanted, unsure. He may be the answer Valo needs, if he doesn’t get killed before he works out what’s going on. But of course there’s the chance that fate hasn’t called him after all. The gods are nameless and silent and the best laid plans have a way of going badly wrong.

Enter the spade and sorcery world of Valo.

Gravedigger subverts the expectations of that oldest of foes in fantasy, the dead that walk, in a fast-paced adventure through a world of culture, intrigue, magic and blood.

Endorsements:

“Masterful world-building from a rising talent – Perin is the most iconic fantasy protagonist since Bilbo Baggins.” – J. G. Clay, author of Tales of Blood and Sulphur

By Justin Bog

Genre: Literary Fiction, Crime, Family Saga, LGBT

“I see all of these people. They’re living and breathing and acting on their basest impulses. I lay in a coma. They live. I hover over all of them, all at once. I can see my body, motionless, wired up, adrift. And I can find out why this happened. This is my story and I won’t remember any of it when—if—I wake up. But I’ll try to remember—I’ll try damn hard.”

Middleton , MONTANA—OCTOBER 2004—AN ELECTION YEAR

A small college town’s populace is tied, complicitly, to the brutal attack of a teenage boy by four of his classmates. Soon, heated rumors of a possible hate crime surface. Injustice is a hungry beast.

While Chris Bullet remains unresponsive in a coma, his skull shattered, he floats above dire circumstance. In this phantom state, compelled to witness his past once more, the family’s darkest secrets, hidden over generations, will be aired.

 Review

Chris is lying in a hospital bed in a coma because of a hate crime. In this strange state, he has some vivid experiences that bring on many changes.

This is a very serious subject and the author handled it exceptionally well. Chris is beaten by his peers because they think he is gay.

This multi-layered tale takes the reader on an non stoppable, emotional ride. From the very start the story is intense and it stays that way till the very end. The characters are diverse and keep the emotion of the novel in high swing.

Do not miss this astounding read!

I received this novel for a honest review.

Tales of Blood and Sulphur by J.G. Clay – Book Spotlight

Biography

J.G Clay is definitely a Man of Horror. There can be no doubt. Putting aside the reverence he has for the horror greats, such as King, Barker, Herbert, Carpenter, Romero and Argento, there is another fact that defines his claim for the title of the ‘Duke of Spook’. He was born on Halloween night. By a quirk fate, it was also a full moon that night. Co-incidence?

Here at Clay Towers, we don’t believe in coincidences.

The 41 year old hails from the Midlands in the United Kingdom, is married with one step child and two dogs that bear a strong resemblance to Ewoks. Beyond the page and the written word, he is music mad and can hold down a tune on a bass guitar pretty well. He is an avid reader and also has an enduring love of British sci-fi, from the pages of the ‘2000A.D’ comic to the televised wanderings of Gallifrey’s most famous physician. Clay is also a long-time fan of the mighty Birmingham City Football Club and endures a lot of flak from his friends for it.

Blurb

Eleven Tales steeped in Blood and reeking of Sulphur

J.G Clay takes you on a journey through the voids of Reality and into dark places where demons, mutants and inter-dimensional creatures taunt, taint and corrupt Humanity. Survival is not guaranteed, sanity is not assured and death lurks in every corner. These are the Tales of Blood and Sulphur: Apocalypse Minor; eleven twisted tales of terror and mayhem……

There are cracks in the skin of Reality. Some are microscopic, others are as wide as a four-lane motorway. As the fault lines increase and widen, the door to our world shines like a beacon in the darkness, a warm and inviting sight to others beyond our understanding. When They cross over into our realm, The Tales begin……

A gambler taking one last desperate throw of the dice. A struggling writer making an unholy alliance. An eternal being fighting to stay alive in the financial capital of India. A man burdened with a terrible town secret. The Law Enforcers who must never cry. The End of Days live and direct from the rural heartland of England.

The blood is warm, the sulphur is burning, the tales will be told, the Apocalypse Minor is imminent!
