Nathan Waymaker has trouble staying out of trouble. So when a local pastor dies under mysterious circumstances and the ladies of the church ask Nathan to look into it, boy, does it open a can of worms!

Nathan is a character in which I love! He really tries to do good, well…until he just can’t. He is tough as nails and smart as a whip. And he is loyal to a fault. He is also a smart aleck. I found myself laughing out loud in places.

This story had me jumping for joy, gasping for breath and just plain terrified all in the same paragraph! Talk about intense! This is a book I would love to see made into a movie. And I never say that! Hollywood never gets it right. But this would make a fabulous, action-packed thriller.

Y’all! The narrator, Adam Lazarre-White is one of the best I have ever heard. His deep voice fit my image of Nathan to a “T”!

Emily and Chess have been best friends almost their whole lives. But as they have grown older and their lives have gotten busier, their friendship has been a bit strained. Emily’s life has taken a bad turn with a divorce and her writing has completely halted. She jumps at the chance to spend the summer with Chess in an Italian Villa. But, this villa has a past. It is the home to one of the most famous murders ever.

This villa really stirs up Emily. She starts to investigate and discovers quite a bit of information. And this leads to some issues between her and Chess. And here is where the fun begins! You will have to read this to find out…with all these twists and turns. You will not be sorry!

I enjoyed so much about this novel. The famous people, the murder, the location and Emily and Chess all come together to make a twisted tale. I am still thinking about all the lies and betrayals!

This novel is narrated by a few different narrators. I do love a tag team. And this tag team included Julia Whelan. She is one of my favorites.

Avis is head librarian in her small town in Maine. She has just learned her private library is about to close because the owner is wanting to turn it into a child care center. So, Avis decides to form a book club to keep up moral and to help keep her library doors open. This book club turns into the saving grace for many of the townspeople.

This is a sweet but intense read. There are quite a few characters but the author did a great job keeping them distinctive. They each have characteristics which make them unique and just plain special.

The setting of Maine during WWII is amazing! I loved learning about all the issues this state faced. I knew about the siting of the U-boats but I did not know about the people they recruited to keep and eye out for Germans.

Then there is the book club. I love, love, love all the book references and the closet with romance novels hidden from everyone. I swear, I found myself grinning and laughing at some of the antics from these characters! Such a cute and captivating read!

Review

Dimpna has avoided coming home to Dingle for as long as she can. Family drama and her past is just something she really wants to avoid. But, she is here now and there has been a murder of Jimmy O’Reilly and her parents are possible suspects. Her father has dementia and her mother is rumored to be sleeping with Jimmy. So the complications just keep getting worse!

I loved Dimpna. She is very secretive and just a unique character. I was really rooting for her. You have to read this to find out. She has just had quite a few things happen to her and she is struggling to keep it together. Add in the murder and the beautiful setting and you have an all around good book!

The narrator, Emily O’Mahony is excellent. She did a fabulous job with the accents and all the different voices.
