Violet Figg and her sister Trudy have lived a quiet life in Sugar Bend, Alabama, since a night forty years ago that stole Trudy’s voice and cemented Violet’s role as her sister’s fierce and loyal protector. Now Trudy spends her days making sculptures from found objects and speaking through notes written on scraps of paper, while Violet runs their art shop, monitors bird activity up and down the water, and tries not to think of the one great love she gave up to keep her sister safe.

Violet and Trudy have a secret. They are living a quiet life in Sugar Bend, AL. But, things are changing. A boat has been found, a bracelet has turned up, and there is a missing person still missing. Can they ride out this storm?!

First off, I loved the setting of this book. We have visited the Alabama coast numerous times and I enjoyed reading about this area. It is almost feels like home!

I also adored Trudy and Violet. They have a unique bond and believe me, Violet is not going to let anything break it. Then, there is Maya. She is a lost, young lady just looking for a place to call her own. These ladies step up and take her in.

But, there is the secret…what part of the past are Violet and Trudy not sharing? I figured it out, as will any of the readers. But, the way it plays out is intense and really kept me locked into the story!

Brittany Presley is the narrator. And I adored her! All her voices were spot on and her intensity was definitely on target!

Marlowe has been sent by her father to inspect the books of the 4 Thieves Distillery. Marlowe is to determine if an investment into this business is worth it. But, Law has other ideas. He has had Marlowe on his brain since he ran into her at a party. Can Marlowe resist his charms…NO!

I read this book in one sitting…or rather one night of insomnia. I really enjoyed the characters. And there were places I laughed out loud. And of course, who can resist Law…ooooolala! And Marlowe! She is a smart lady with a kick!

Sheriff Jax has a missing girl in his town. The more he follows the leads the more convoluted the case becomes. Then the case twists again. Could it be possible? Is it tied to one of his very first missing persons’ crimes?

I fell for Jax right away. As a matter of fact, I fell for most of these characters. Some are broken, like Jax. And some are so real, they live in my town…I just know them.

I also enjoyed the hunt in this one! I did figure it out and there are a lot of coincidences which led to me figuring out who did what. But, with the characters and the chase, it is a pretty dang good mystery.

This is the first book in the Misty Pines series. I will definitely be on the look out for the others in this series. There is a backstory which is bound to be revealed and I want to know more!

Cathryn has been asked to travel to Iceland to photograph a very talented glass blower. She decides to turn this trip into a much needed vacation. But, as we all know, life throws us curve balls.

I loved Cathryn from the start. She has been just existing in her life for a while. So, she has decided to do for her and this vacation is sort of a life changing decision. Then she meets Mack, the glass blower, and sparks do not fly. Their connection smolders and slowly grows into an undeniable bond.

Now, at first, I was not a big fan of Mack. I found him borderline rude. But, his gruffness grew in me. And his talent is something else! I loved learning about the glass blowing process. I figured this would be a boring part of the book. But, this author is powerful in her descriptions.

This was very close to a 5 star read for me. The plot is just a little thin. But my word, the scenery and the prose! It just keeps you coming back for more! I fell for Iceland and much as I did this story. It is now in my bucket list!

Shelby has decided to leave the Hollywood scene. She has been dumped by her long time boyfriend, Lyle and she is just over all the drama. She calls her old friend Cameron. He comes running to Shelby’s side. But, then Lyle decides to create some havoc and interfere.

At first, I was not real sure I was going to like Shelby. She came across as insincere and superficial. But after she left Hollywood and became a woodworker and a carpenter, I found her very charming. As for Cameron, he is just an all around good guy. You can’t help but fall for him. He has excellent magnetism!!!

I enjoyed the history between Shelby and Cameron. The connection between these two really made the story…plus their hate for Lyle. Lyle is something else…I just wanted to smack him!

Keith and Hugh grew up together and played baseball on championship teams. But, their lives take different turns. Keith’s father becomes a prosecutor so this leads Keith to go to law school. Hugh’s father becomes the mob boss of the coast and Hugh falls into the family business. Each on opposite ends of the law with many conflicts headed their way.

Now, this is my favorite John Grisham cover! I love this cover. This story though, is not my favorite. And yes I have read every single one. And almost all are 5 stars. This one just seemed a bit long and drawn out. And most of his books are not like that…so…it could be me. I am thinking I am headed for a reading slump…so keep that in mind.

I enjoyed learning about all the insurance trials after hurricane Camille. I had no idea any of that occurred. Plus, the setting of Biloxi and cleaning up the coast was a very unique story line to me. Being from Mississippi, I really did not know about a lot of this…so this book had me researching. And as usual, his characters are some of the best! They are usually flawed and this book is no different. Some very real people exist in this book and I felt like I knew all of them!

And the ending…oh boy!

He wants his daughter and Vanessa to share in the magic of this beautiful city. He also has an ulterior motive. He intends to stop by Tiffany’s and purchase an engagement ring.

But, as usual in the way of life. Ethan purchases the ring but in the confusion of an accident, gifts get switched. Ethan follows the ring all the way overseas to try and retrieve his gift. Things do not work out as planned.

I enjoyed this novel. Now, this is your typical Christmas romance. And I had it figured out after 2 chapters. I knew exactly what was going to happen. But, there is just something about this time of year and all the romances. They are quick, easy reads. Perfect for when life gets busy around the holiday. Just plain magical escapes.

Cate is a struggling art history major. She cannot get her professor to give her credit or the attention she deserves. He only believes that the male art history students have what it takes. He is constantly shooting down Cate and her ideas for her thesis. However, during one of her jobs of cleaning out a storage room at her school, she discovers a rare painting. So, over Christmas break she decides to slip this beautiful painting out of the school and she takes it to Spain to have it analyzed.

Cate is a strong female character which I adored. Now, she has some ideas which she should have thought through. But, she is smart even if she is impetuous.

I absolutely loved learning about the art and the history of the painting. Add in the surprise surrounding the painting and you have a pretty dang good mystery unfolding in these pages!
