Josie Anderson, an American and Arlette LaRue, a Parisian, are working together to help the French resistance. They are named the Golden Doves. They eventually get caught by the Gestapo and are sent to Ravensbrück concentration camp. This is where Arlette’s son is stolen. A decade later, she is still on the hunt. She believes in her heart he is still alive. Josie now works for army intelligence and she searching for a Dr. Snow. These two team up to help each other. But, as you can guess nothing goes as planned.
I love Josie and Arlette. These two are tough in different ways. They compliment each other. Arlette is a bit softer to Josie’s toughness.
I knew about the USA and Operation Paperclip, I just don’t think I believed the extent of it. This book opened my eyes to the lengths the USA tried to get the scientist and the doctors to the States before Russia did.
Now, this is a five star read for me but, it is not without problems. I did feel the story is a bit coincidental and far fetched, especially at the end. However, the intensity and the emotional feelings of this story is spot on. This is what keeps drawing me to this author. I have been a fan since I read The Lilac Girls …another must read. And this is, I don’t want to say sequel, but it does follow some of the same characters. So, if you get a chance, grab this book too!
This is one of my favorite time periods. WWII always creates so much emotion for me. I just can’t fathom the loss, anger, and hurt that this period in history caused for everyone involved.

Bianca Maria Curtis is at the brink of losing it all when she meets Eric at a bar in Manhattan. Eric, as it turns out, is the famous Korean drama celebrity Park Hyun Min, and he’s in town for one night to escape the pressures of fame. In that time, they talk about the big stuff: love, life, and happiness, and the freedom they both seek to fully exist and not merely survive.
But real life is more than just a few exhilarating stolen moments in time.
As the clock strikes the twelfth hour, Bianca returns back to the life she detests to face a tragedy that will test her strength and resolve—and the only thing she has to keep going is the memory of a man she loves in secret from a world away.
Review
Bianca has lost a possible job that she needed desperately and now she is crying in her beer in a bar in Manhattan. She strikes up a conversation with the cute guy next to her. This conversation changes her life in more ways than one!
The guy next to her just happens to be a famous Korean actor, Park Hyun Min, or better known as Eric. Bianca eventually recognizes him and does her best to act cool. But as the night progresses she realizes there is more than a little connection.
Bianca and Eric are adorable together. However, I did like him better than I did her. She annoyed me a little bit. She is whiny and very dramatic in places. But, Eric is rock solid!
I loved the setting of NYC. These two enjoy so many great spots in this fabulous area. And like I said before, their connection makes the whole book. This story will have you laughing and crying all in the same paragraph.

And now, with detectives tightening the focus of their investigation, Sara is consumed by her darkest fear—that the babysitter’s death was not an accident.
“Rick Mofina has penned a creepy, heart-pounding page-turner…. A gripping, chilling thriller from beginning to end.” —Heather Gudenkauf, New York Times bestselling author of The Overnight Guest
Review
Sara’s daughter Katie witnessed her babysitter fall from a cliff. Sara is more than worried, she is afraid Katie had something to do with it. Why? Sara has a hidden past and she struggles to keep it hidden every day. She hopes and prays her little Katie does not have genetic tendencies inherited from someone in Sara’s family.
I love all the layers in this story. Katie is just a young child but to know where the reader thinks this is heading…messes one up! I was terrified for Katie and Sara. So, it definitely plays with your emotions. Rick did an incredible job with all the twists and turns. AND THE ENDING!
I have been a big fan of this author for years! So, I jumped at the chance to read this one. I knew I would be in for an intense and wild ride. And this story delivered!

Sea Isle was supposed to be the fresh start Dr. Emilia McRoy dreamed of. Far from the busy emergency room across the Atlantic in Seattle, she hoped to settle down and begin this new chapter as a small-town doctor to the quirky residents who immediately welcomed her. When she stumbles across a dead body, she starts to think that she may not be as Scot free of the drama and intrigue as she initially thought.
Emilia soon learns she has bigger issues at hand. It starts with realizing she’ll work closely with the less than helpful local constable, Laird Ewan Campbell. Her luck continues when she discovers that part of her new responsibilities includes being the coroner for the very body she found. Finally, when the body goes missing before she can even begin the autopsy, she must convince the townspeople that a crime did, in fact, occur. The deeper she digs into the picturesque town, the more suspicious she becomes. And then there are her sleep issues. It may be due to the ever-growing list of suspects, a number of threatening letters, or the surprise visitor who breaks into her house at night. But she’s never backed down before, and she doesn’t intend to start now.
Someone doesn’t want this doctor to treat the ailments of Sea Isle, but Emilia McRoy is determined to find the murderer before they kilt again.
Review
Emilia has given up her job in Seattle. It has way too many bad memories for her. So, she takes a leap of faith and moves to a very small town in Scotland. She is expecting an easy time of it and a slower pace. Then it all changes when she discovers a dead body and she falls right in the middle of a murder!
Now, this is not my usual genre. I am not a big fan of cozy mysteries. But, I wanted to listen to it because we have a trip to Scotland coming up and I wanted to get in the groove.
What I don’t necessarily like about cozy mysteries is that they are overly dramatic. And this one falls right into that category. But, this book is still pretty good! I am definitely going to look out for the next in the series. I loved Emilia, even if she was a bit stupid in some of her decision making skills. But Ewan, the Scottish Laird made up for that real quick!😜
The narrator, Kimberly M. Wetherell did a great job, especially with the Scottish accent. Sometimes that is a hit or miss.

Hunger gnawed at my insides. I couldn’t last much longer. But just as I was beginning to give up, I found myself in the Auschwitz stables, with rows of stalls filled with horses. Barbarossa was a towering, beautiful stallion. He only responded to commands in German, and as the only German-speaking boy, I was chosen as his caretaker. I felt an ember of hope. If I could make myself useful, helping these horses, maybe I could stay alive.”
Henry Oster was just five years old when Adolf Hitler took power in 1933. One of the 2,011 Jews who were rounded up by the Gestapo and deported from Cologne, he was one of only 23 to emerge alive from the concentration camps after the war.
A heart-wrenching and inspirational true account of a courageous little boy who, against all odds, after losing almost everything a human being can lose, survived to tell his story.
Torn from their home, Henry and his parents were deported to the Łódź Ghetto in Poland, a concentration camp within a city. Then, one terrifying day, after losing his father to starvation, Henry found himself and his mom herded onto a stifling, filth-ridden cattle car, on a ride to a place whose name has come to symbolize the worst of humanity: Auschwitz.
Nazis ripped Henry apart from his mother in the shuffling river of children, women, and men stepping off the train. For the first time in his life, Henry was completely alone.
Assigned to work in the Auschwitz stables, breeding horses, Henry had to tend his mares, Mutti, Olga, and the stallion Barbarossa from dawn into the night. It was back-breaking labor, but Henry clung to the belief that if he made himself hard to replace, he might just stay alive. With crippling hunger pains, Henry fed the horses each day, knowing that if he were caught pocketing a carrot or cramming some grain into his mouth, he would face the hangman.
Through it all—from finding ways to escape being selected for death in the Auschwitz/Birkenau gas chambers, to surviving a machine-gun firing squad, to enduring a brutal death march through the bleak Polish winter—Henry somehow found the strength and the will to keep on going.
How did one starving little boy, alone and forgotten, survive this ultimate hell on earth? The Kindness of the Hangman is the heart-breaking, mesmerizing, and unforgettable true story that will destroy your faith in humanity. And then build it back up again.
This book was originally published as The Kindness of the Hangman.
Review
Henry was a very young boy when Hitler came to power. His family struggled to stay together. But, this was just not meant to be. After his father’s death, Henry and his mother were sent to the concentration camps. And how Henry survived years of starvation and abuse is shocking. And then his struggle with the unknown of liberation and the success in the United States is a tale not to be missed.
There is so much packed into this book. And yes it is all terrible and hard to believe. To know human beings did this always amazes me. Man’s inhumanity to man! But, what I discovered is, I do not think I ever really knew what happened to the children after liberation. To be honest, I don’t think I thought any of the children survived. So, to say my eyes were opened is an understatement. This story had me crying and terrified for all the children. I just cannot fathom people doing this to other people…ok…I have said that already but this story just brings it to the surface.
The narrator, William Hope, is incredible. He must have had to pause in places and get his emotions in check!

In 1934, a luxury cruise becomes a fight for survival as two women’s pasts collide on a round-trip voyage from New York to Havana in New York Times bestselling author Chanel Cleeton’s page-turning new novel inspired by the true story of the SS Morro Castle.

Elena Palacio is a dead woman. Or so everyone thinks. After a devastating betrayal left her penniless and on the run, Elena’s journey on the Morro Castle is her last hope. Steeped in secrecy and a burning desire for revenge, her return to Havana is a chance to right the wrong that has been done to her—and her prey is on the ship.
As danger swirls aboard the Morro Castle and their fates intertwine, Elena and Catherine must risk everything to see justice served once and for all.
Review
Now, I am not going to lie, this author is a hit or miss for me. However, I did enjoy this one. But, it is not as good as The Last Train to Key West. (Her best book, in my opinion!). And, I know I am in the minority. And I will fight to get her books to preview because I love her covers and I know I will love the setting.
This story takes place almost exclusively on a ship. There is intrigue and deception right from the start. Catherine is an heiress or everyone thinks so. Her fiancé is rich and keeps her dripping with jewels. But he is a fraud! Elena is supposedly dead but she is out for revenge. Then there is the alluring jewel thief!
I enjoyed following all the characters and their deceptions. This novel clearly keeps the reader on their toes! Talk about a hunt for who is who and what is what!

From USA Today bestselling author Tif Marcelo comes a timeless tale of motherhood inspired by Little Women about one woman’s grief, hope, and second chance with the daughter she lost.
It’s been two years since Celine lost her daughter Libby. Desperate to escape her grief, Celine throws herself into her work, determined to be the strong, capable woman the world believes her to be. But there’s no fooling her family.
A shocking intervention brings an impossible choice: confront her grief or risk losing the family she still has. Reeling, Celine wonders what her life would have been like if she’d chosen her first love instead of her husband and avoided this pain altogether.
Celine wakes the following day and is shocked to realize that what-if has become reality. She’s with her high school sweetheart, her daughters aren’t quite her daughters, and her home is being rented by the daughter she thought she’d lost forever.
As she reconnects with Libby in this parallel world, Celine is forced to face the problems in her real life: her unwillingness to move forward, the tension that’s always rocked her family, and the hard truth that not everything can be fixed by a mother’s love.
Review
Celine has lost her daughter, Libby, to a terrible infection. She blames herself for not checking on her and being there for her. Her grief takes over and she is avoiding all aspects relating to Libby. Her family stages and intervention. Her children want their mother and her husband wants his wife back! Celine must make a choice…face her grief or lose her family.
Well, this is a bit out of the ordinary for this author. I have been a big fan of Tif since I read North To You years ago. This is not at all what I expected. I expected a sweet romance. Well! This has a little romance but this is about grief, family and rebuilding your life together after an unimaginable death.
I love when an author expands their abilities and their talents. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t. This one worked. Now, it is a bit out there with a “parallel universe”. But if your smart you will know exactly what “universe” it is! And I will be honest, I really was a bit hesitant at first but I enjoyed Celine and all her emotions. Plus, I trusted Tif to take me on a good ride! And she sure did!

From real-life “Mafia Survivor” Frank Dimatteo, the gripping account of the life and crimes of the most feared mafia boss of all time: Carmine “Lilo” Galante, the prime mover behind the legendary French Connection.
HIS WAR CRY: “I RULE EVERYTHING.” FOR HALF A CENTURY HE ALMOST DID.
The brutal and blood-stained true story of one of the most feared bosses in American Mafia history, who rose from tenement street thug to notorious hit man to a prime mover behind the legendary French Connection. And the bodies piled up.
The son of Sicilian immigrants, Camillo Carmine Galante was raised in Manhattan’s Little Italy and by all accounts born bad. At age ten his home away from home was juvenile detention. By fifteen he was terrorizing the streets of New York’s Lower East Side, scoring high marks for the “errands” he was running for his La Cosa Nostra elders. When he turned twenty, Galante was already one of the mob’s top enforcers–a sadistic thrill killer and clinically diagnosed psychopath with big dreams: whack his way into controlling organized crime the world over, vowing to kill Mafia chieftans Tommy Lucchese and Carlo Gambino and take control of their mob families.
Carmine “Lilo” Galante’s rise to Mafia star was infamous: hit man for the Luciano and Genovese crime families; named consigliere by Joseph Bonnano; he wiped out eight members of the Gambinos; on behalf of Mussolini he assassinated the publisher of an anti-Fascist newspaper. “The biggest dope peddler in the country” according to law enforcement, Galante helped orchestrate one of the largest heroin trafficking operations on record—a power move too dangerous for his rivals in the narcotics trade. The heads of the five New York families decided that the psychotic Galante had to be stopped. On July 12, 1979, finishing his lunch in a Brooklyn restaurant, Galante got what he’d dished out his whole life: a shotgun blast to the face, his trademark cigar still clenched in his teeth . . .
Frank Dimatteo is a lifelong Brooklynite, Mafia “survivor,” and publisher of Mob Candy magazine. He is the author of the acclaimed memoir, The President Street Boys: Growing Up Mafia,as well as Mob Candy’s Brooklyn Gangsters and Manhattan Gangsters.
Michael Benson is the author of more than sixty books, including the true crime titles Betrayal in Blood, Killer Twins, and Mommy Deadliest. He also wrote Who’s Who in the JFK Assassination, and most recently, The Devil at Genesee Junction. He regularly appears on ID: Investigation Discovery channel, including On the Case with Paula Zahn, and Deadly Sins. He is the recipient of the Academy of American Poets award.
Review
I really enjoy true crime, especially ones about the Mafia. I find this culture truly fascinating. This follows, Carmine Galante, through his life of crime. And it spans decades!
Carmine Galante was raised in NYC Little Italy. His life of crime began at a very young age. He spent many of his younger years in and out of juvenile detention. But, by the time he was in his early twenties he was a vicious killer for the Luciano and Genovese crime families.
The intricacies of the mafia underworld and the grasp of the bosses and their empires is all encompassed in this book. Talk about well researched! This is a very engaging true story about a psychopath which had his fingers in almost every piece of crime the mafia was known for.
The narrator, Eric Jason Martin did a superb job, very smooth and polished.

A captivating and candid memoir from one of the most beloved and colorful figures in Toronto Blue Jays history
Over 11 years and two separate managerial stints with the Toronto Blue Jays, John Gibbons endeared himself to fans with his folksy manner and his frequent battles with umpires: “Here comes Gibby!” Winning helped too. Under Gibbons’s management, the Jays made the American League Championship Series in 2015, ending a 22-year playoff drought; then they did it again in 2016. Along the way the team defied odds, won over a nation, and with one flip of a bat produced one of the most iconic moments in MLB history. Now, in his memoir, Gibby shares the story: an on-field career that didn’t pan out, but a managing career that did … eventually.
Raised in a military family, he played his first competitive baseball in Newfoundland and Labrador, and, with the family now in San Antonio, Texas, Gibby, a catcher, developed into a first-round draft pick of the New York Mets. While Gibbons only played 18 major league games, he did earn a World Series ring as the 1986 Mets bullpen catcher and knew all the characters from that team, including Doc Gooden, Darryl Strawberry, Lenny Dykstra, and Gary Carter. In 1990, Gibby began his journey as a coach and manager. An old teammate, J.P. Ricciardi, hired him to work with the Jays, and he moved his way up the ranks and into the hearts of baseball fans.
Review
John “Gibby” Gibbons started his baseball career as a catcher. He only played 18 games. This did not stop him from being a great coach and manager. His relationship with his players and his intelligence lead to an impressive career.
John Gibbons has been an icon in professional baseball for years. So, I jumped at the chance to read this.
I enjoyed so much about this book! I have been a huge baseball fan my whole life. So, I just love reading about the quirks of the game. This book is full of famous names and the politics of the game. I laughed out loud in places and was surprised in others. Now, it is a bit choppy in the writing. But that could be because it is an arc and the kinks have not been worked out yet.
