Saving Grapes by J.T. Lundy

Overview

Thirty-two-year-old Jason Barnes recently lost his job, and his heart. Now, thanks to a meddling ex-wife and a golf cart fiasco, he has just thirty days to pay a $60,000 fine or go to jail.

Jason was hoping his Aunt Clara would come to his rescue, but she unexpectedly dies, gifting her liquid assets to charity. She does, however, will Jason a picturesque French vineyard—and it’s worth millions. But there’s a catch! If Jason goes to jail, the vineyard will transfer to his unscrupulous stepbrother.

To raise the cash he needs, Jason travels to France with his knucklehead of a best friend to sell the vineyard. Cashing in will not be so simple, though. Formidable nuns farm the vineyard, and he needs their blessing to sell. To persuade the good sisters, Jason attempts a madcap series of dubious schemes, and while doing so falls for what he thinks is the perfect French woman. Amidst this melee of wine, women, nuns, and villains, Jason must unearth his true values in order to save more than just his soul.

Infused with J.T. Lundy’s deliciously skewed sense of humor, and full of flawed but irresistible characters, Saving Grapes is a rollicking, good-hearted Wodehousian comedy that speaks to the hapless romantic in all of us.

Review

Jason has, sort of, inherited a vineyard in France. He must stay out of trouble to inherit….needless to say…the odds are against him.

This is a cute, funny, quick read. The setting is wonderful. The vineyards of France, what could be better.

As a matter of fact, Jason’s best friend reminds me of Alan from the movie  The Hangover.  A lot of their antics in this story remind me of the movie. It is a wild crazy ride.

It is silly and stupid in places….exactly as the author intended. So, if you are looking for a nutty, erratic read, this is it!

I received this book from Netgalley for an honest review

The Little Paris Bookshop by Nina George

OVERVIEW

Monsieur Perdu can prescribe the perfect book for a broken heart. But can he fix his own?

Monsieur Perdu calls himself a literary apothecary. From his floating bookstore in a barge on the Seine, he prescribes novels for the hardships of life. Using his intuitive feel for the exact book a reader needs, Perdu mends broken hearts and souls. The only person he can’t seem to heal through literature is himself; he’s still haunted by heartbreak after his great love disappeared. She left him with only a letter, which he has never opened.

After Perdu is finally tempted to read the letter, he hauls anchor and departs on a mission to the south of France, hoping to make peace with his loss and discover the end of the story. Joined by a bestselling but blocked author and a lovelorn Italian chef, Perdu travels along the country’s rivers, dispensing his wisdom and his books, showing that the literary world can take the human soul on a journey to heal itself.

Internationally bestselling and filled with warmth and adventure, The Little Paris Bookshop is a love letter to books, meant for anyone who believes in the power of stories to shape people’s lives.

REVIEW

This novel starts out as a 5 star read. The prose is absolutely fantastic. I love Perdu and the barge/bookstore. But, after Perdu finds a letter from his lost love, the book went downhill from there.

Perdu is the owner of a bookstore on a barge (very unique). He is a sad man, not really living, totally lost. He realizes he has made a terrible mistake and the best way he knows to cope is to take the barge/bookstore on a trip.

The story has a fabulous start. I was enraptured with Perdu and his lost love. However, as the story went deeper, it became more convoluted and I completely lost interest.

This is a story about grieving, loss and growth throughout life.  As I said earlier, the prose is fantastic. I marked many passages. But, it is almost as if the author changed course in the middle.

I see a lot of promise in this author. I look forward to reading her as she develops.

I received this novel from Netgalley for an honest review.

Musical Memories    FINALLY!

One of the best things about working with clear acrylic is you can see through to the next page. I love how you can see the Fleur de lis on the next page.

The trim around these pages was left over from her uniform. I just had to use it. I had to attach it with redline tape to make sure it stayed in place. It is very heavy and didn’t want to cooperate very well.
One problem with working with clear is you can see through it to the next page….you have to think about what you can see. This is why I repeated the tags on the page above and the page below. These pages were decorated with alcohol inks.

I painted the left page with gold paint and added clear stickers and trim. The right side is decorated with alcohol inks and stamps.

I love how you can see through this to the clear stickers on the page behind it.

This took all summer to complete. But I love the final outcome!! Very well worth the hard work.

Thanks for stopping by!!

Sustained by Emma Chase #XOXperts

OVERVIEW

Emma Chase, New York Times bestselling author of the Tangled series, returns with a brand new funny, romantic, sexy story.

A knight in tarnished armor is still a knight.

When you’re a defense attorney in Washington, DC, you see firsthand how hard life can be, and that sometimes the only way to survive is to be harder. I, Jake Becker, have a reputation for being cold, callous, and intimidating—and that suits me just fine. In fact, it’s necessary when I’m breaking down a witness on the stand.

Complications don’t work for me—I’m a “need-to-know” type of man. If you’re my client, tell me the basic facts. If you’re my date, stick to what will turn you on. I’m not a therapist or Prince Charming—and I don’t pretend to be.

Then Chelsea McQuaid and her six orphaned nieces and nephews came along and complicated the ever-loving hell out of my life. Now I’m going to Mommy and Me classes, One Direction concerts, the emergency room, and arguing cases in the principal’s office.

Chelsea’s too sweet, too innocent, and too gorgeous for her own good. She tries to be tough, but she’s not. She needs someone to help her, defend her…and the kids.

And that—that, I know how to do.
REVIEW

Before I started this book I was in a huge reading rut.  This novel solved that problem.

Chelsea is a young woman raising her brothers six children.  Enter Jake!  This is not what Jake has in mind for the rest of his life.  But, Chelsea and Jake have such chemistry and with all the antics of the children, Jake is won over.

I had a hard time putting this book down and I didn’t want it to end.  Chelsea and Jake’s story lit up the pages.  Jake has a wonderful personality….he is a little bit of a smart butt! Some of his comments made me laugh out loud. The children also keep the story moving with their antics and all the trouble they cause.

I was impressed with this romantic, funny tale! I have found a new author and a new series! I MUST go back and pick up book one, Overuled.

I received this novel from Simon and Schuster as part of XOXpert.  I love being an XOXpert!!!

One more SNEAK PEAK

Just one more sneak peak before I post the final album

The page on the left was done with alcohol ink. I just dabbed it on with the dabbler tool…I know…very smart name!! Since the page is acrylic, you can clean it off with fingernail polish remover and start from scratch. Also, remember that it is a clear page and you can see everything you put on the other side. You also must use the adhesive Zip Dry.
