Greg stays by her side while she heals, and he sees her every time he’s in Toronto for work. Without any other support or friendship in her life, Karen craves his enthusiastic attention, and their friendship deepens to love. Sustained by Emma Chase #XOXperts

OVERVIEW

Emma Chase, New York Times bestselling author of the Tangled series, returns with a brand new funny, romantic, sexy story.

A knight in tarnished armor is still a knight.

When you’re a defense attorney in Washington, DC, you see firsthand how hard life can be, and that sometimes the only way to survive is to be harder. I, Jake Becker, have a reputation for being cold, callous, and intimidating—and that suits me just fine. In fact, it’s necessary when I’m breaking down a witness on the stand.

Complications don’t work for me—I’m a “need-to-know” type of man. If you’re my client, tell me the basic facts. If you’re my date, stick to what will turn you on. I’m not a therapist or Prince Charming—and I don’t pretend to be.

Then Chelsea McQuaid and her six orphaned nieces and nephews came along and complicated the ever-loving hell out of my life. Now I’m going to Mommy and Me classes, One Direction concerts, the emergency room, and arguing cases in the principal’s office.

Chelsea’s too sweet, too innocent, and too gorgeous for her own good. She tries to be tough, but she’s not. She needs someone to help her, defend her…and the kids.

And that—that, I know how to do.
REVIEW

Before I started this book I was in a huge reading rut.  This novel solved that problem.

Chelsea is a young woman raising her brothers six children.  Enter Jake!  This is not what Jake has in mind for the rest of his life.  But, Chelsea and Jake have such chemistry and with all the antics of the children, Jake is won over.

I had a hard time putting this book down and I didn’t want it to end.  Chelsea and Jake’s story lit up the pages.  Jake has a wonderful personality….he is a little bit of a smart butt! Some of his comments made me laugh out loud. The children also keep the story moving with their antics and all the trouble they cause.

I was impressed with this romantic, funny tale! I have found a new author and a new series! I MUST go back and pick up book one, Overuled.

I received this novel from Simon and Schuster as part of XOXpert.  I love being an XOXpert!!!

Just one more sneak peak before I post the final album

The page on the left was done with alcohol ink. I just dabbed it on with the dabbler tool…I know…very smart name!! Since the page is acrylic, you can clean it off with fingernail polish remover and start from scratch. Also, remember that it is a clear page and you can see everything you put on the other side. You also must use the adhesive Zip Dry.

Circling The Sun by Paula McLain

OVERVIEW

Paula McLain, author of the phenomenal bestseller The Paris Wife, now returns with her keenly anticipated new novel, transporting readers to colonial Kenya in the 1920s. Circling the Sun brings to life a fearless and captivating woman—Beryl Markham, a record-setting aviator caught up in a passionate love triangle with safari hunter Denys Finch Hatton and Karen Blixen, author of the classic memoir Out of Africa.

Brought to Kenya from England as a child and then abandoned by her mother, Beryl is raised by both her father and the native Kipsigis tribe who share his estate. Her unconventional upbringing transforms Beryl into a bold young woman with a fierce love of all things wild and an inherent understanding of nature’s delicate balance. But even the wild child must grow up, and when everything Beryl knows and trusts dissolves, she is catapulted into a string of disastrous relationships.

Beryl forges her own path as a horse trainer, and her uncommon style attracts the eye of the Happy Valley set, a decadent, bohemian community of European expats who also live and love by their own set of rules. But it’s the ruggedly charismatic Denys Finch Hatton who ultimately helps Beryl navigate the uncharted territory of her own heart. The intensity of their love reveals Beryl’s truest self and her fate: to fly.

Set against the majestic landscape of early-twentieth-century Africa, McLain’s powerful tale reveals the extraordinary adventures of a woman before her time, the exhilaration of freedom and its cost, and the tenacity of the human spirit.

REVIEW

After reading Paula McLain’s first novel, The Paris Wife,  I expected this one to sweep me away also..sadly, this was not the case.

To get started, the setting was marvelous. I loved hearing about Africa and feel natures’ magnificence.  However, that’s where it ended.

The story was just plain boring. There was so much talk of nothing. And so much of the tale was about nothing of significance.

I expected so much more.  Other than the setting, this novel fell a little short for me.

I received this book from Netgalley for an honest review.

Yeager’s Law by Scott Bell

Genre: Thriller, Mystery

Book Description

Abel Yeager is dead broke, down on his luck, and suffering from a serious case of what-the-hell-does-it-matter. His transition from active Marine to stateside long-haul trucker hit a wicked speed bump when his rig was involved in a wreck that claimed the life of a pregnant woman and laid him up for several months.

Back at work but deeply in debt, Yeager meets bookstore owner Charlie Buchanan in St. Louis and jumps at the chance to haul a load of remainder books to Austin for her. On the way south, a crew of truck thieves tracks his every move. But none of them know what Charlie’s ex has smuggled inside the book pallets, who he stole it from, or how far the owner will go to get it back. Charlie’s the first person Yeager has cared about in a long time, but as their bond deepens, so does the danger they’re in.

With enemy forces closing in, Yeager battles greed, corruption, and his own fatalism in a bid to hold true to Yeager’s First Law: come home at the end of the day.

Review

Yeager is an ex-marine trying to make a go of his trucking company. He gets tangled up in a high-jacking and is saved by Charlie, an Austin, TX book store owner. This unlikely pair ends up in the middle of a major smuggling ring and the danger gets hotter as their relationship turns up the heat.

I officially have a new “book boyfriend”!! Yeager is one hot character. He is a blend of Leroy Jethro Gibbs from NCIS and my other “book boyfriend”, Jack Reacher.  This strong, silent type marine keeps the pages turning  with his escapades.

The only issue I had with this novel is Charlie. She made a few decisions that I really cannot  see a mother making. I know this increased the anticipation throughout the novel, just seemed a little unreal. However, this is just a minor flaw and she and Yeager have a great chemistry going.  This story, with the right actors, could make a fabulous movie.

This fast-paced thriller kept me up past my bedtime. I hope there is a sequel or another novel with Yeager as a character.

The Flying Circus by Susan Crandall

Overview

From the bestselling and award-winning author of Whistling Past the Graveyard comes an adventure tale about two daredevils and a farm boy who embark on the journey of a lifetime across America’s heartland in the Roaring Twenties.

Set in the rapidly changing world of 1920s America, this is a story of three people from very different backgrounds: Henry “Schuler” Jefferson, son of German immigrants from Midwestern farm country; Cora Rose Haviland, a young woman of privilege whose family has lost their fortune; and Charles “Gil” Gilchrist, an emotionally damaged WWI veteran pilot. Set adrift by life-altering circumstances, they find themselves bound together by need and torn apart by blind obsessions and conflicting goals. Each one holds a secret that, if exposed, would destroy their friendship. But their journey of adventure and selfdiscovery has a price—and one of them won’t be able to survive it.

As they crisscross the heartland, exploring the rapidly expanding role of aviation from barnstorming to bootlegging, from a flying circus to the dangerous sport of air racing, the three companions form a makeshift family. It’s a one-of-a-kind family, with members as adventurous as they are vulnerable, and as fascinating as they are flawed. But whatever adventure—worldly or private—they find themselves on, they’re guaranteed to be a family you won’t forget.

Review

To say I loved this novel is an understatement. I have only read one other book by this author, Whistling Past the Graveyard, and I adored that one too.  Now! I must add all of hers to my never ending TBR list.

There was a tremendous amount of research that went into this story. Who would think to write about a flying circus and all that goes into the tricks and stunts?

Cora, Gil and Henry sort of “fall into” being a flying circus. Henry is the mechanic and brains behind the tricks.  Cora is a motorcycle rider and the stunt woman of the group. Gil is the pilot and owner of the plane.  All three are running away from their pasts with severe consequences to their future.

I was captivated by so many aspects of this story, the stunts, the characters, the many towns they visited.  I did not want the tale to end. A riveting read!

I received this novel from Netgalley for an honest review.
