In Search of the One by Randy Siegel- BOOK SPOTLIGHT

In Search of The One: How to Attract the Relationship You’ve Longed For

By Randy Siegel

Genre: Self Help – Relationship, Family, Parenting

Are you longing for your soul mate…the perfect life partner…“The One”—but aren’t sure how to attract the right romantic relationship into your life? Or perhaps you’re already in a relationship—even a long-term one—but you secretly wonder if there might be someone out there with whom you’d be better suited? Cinderella, don’t give up on the prince!

Drawing from personal experience as well as insight from a wide array of experts, In Search of The One: How to Attract the Relationship You’ve Longed explores how to:

• Debunk the myths around “The One” and stop savior seeking.

• Examine the intellectual, emotional, and spiritual components of longing for a romantic relationship.

• Convert longing into loving so that you can become your best self and live your best life.

• Attract or rebuild a relationship so great that you could only imagine it until now.

In In The Search for The One, Randy Siegel explains that the true source of all longing is to be seen, heard, understood, and loved for all we are. By redirecting our focus on three psycho-spiritual paths—the evolution of the unconscious to the conscious self, the defended to the authentic self, and the higher to the divine self—we can find peace and grow personally while attracting a special kind of romantic relationship—a spiritual partnership—into our life.

The distance between longing and love is not as great as you might think.

The Ghostwriters by Mickey J. Corrigan Review plus Excerpt

The Ghostwriters

By Mickey J. Corrigan

Genre: Psychological Thriller, Family Drama

Book Description

She’s ghostwriting a book for a famous author—a recently deceased one. A struggling writer living in Manhattan, Jacy McMasters is the first to admit she’s a terrific liar and a screw-up. Then the ghost of the famous novelist JD Balinger asks her to “channel” a follow-up to his classic coming of age book The Watcher in the Sky. Along with her new boyfriend, a bear of a man who has no patience for mind games, the ghost in Jacy’s head forces her to confront a lifetime of secrets—dark secrets. Secrets she’s been keeping from herself.

Review

Jacy is a struggling, self-destructive, author/beer girl. She happens to have a ghost in her head! A ghostwriter that is.  He helps her write an amazing book…where this takes the reader is so creative!

I love Jacy. She is smart witted and very much a pain in the behind. Mainly because she has issues she has not dealt with. I delighted in figuring out what these issues were and where they were leading Jacy.

This is a novel which surprised me. I am notorious for not reading a blurb.  I just gather enough information to figure out that it is not a fantasy or sci-fi and I start reading. So, I had no idea where this novel was headed. I thought at the beginning it was sort of a chick-lit but it twisted in the middle and took a serious turn. I really do not want to give anything away. I think this is what made the book for me. I didn’t know what was going on with Jacy so I didn’t expect what happened.

This is a very clever read. I enjoyed the twists this novel takes. Very original and unique!

I received this novel for a honest review from Sage Adderley.

Excerpt:

When I woke up the next day, I felt awful. My eyes were swollen shut so I had to tumble out of bed and crawl through clustering dust-devils to the bathroom. I’d suffered worse hangovers after overindulging, but there was a real sharp edge to this one. When I steamed my eyes open with a hot wash cloth, I noticed it right away.

I was still hallucinating.

“You look bad, Jacy my girl,” JD said from his cross-legged perch on my wicker laundry hamper. “First thing we need to do is ease back on the hard core boozing.”

I screamed once or twice before he uncrossed his spidery limbs and said, “Don’t be a ninny. You know who I am, that I come from you. From your own deranged mind. So what’s the sense of yelling, disturbing your neighbors?”

He had a point. I calmed a little and said, “You may be an illusion, my illusion. But that does not mean you can stay in my bathroom while I shower.”

He shrugged, brushed by me on his way out. “I’ll make coffee. And when you come out, all fresh and bright-eyed, we’ll discuss how I can save you. Help dislodge you from your habitual cycle of wanton, destructive choices. No more dabbling. Time for you to shed your loser image, child. It is high time. Take my word.”

Fractured by Catherine McKenzie

Overview

Julie Prentice and her family move across the country to the idyllic Mount Adams district of Cincinnati, hoping to evade the stalker who’s been terrorizing them ever since the publication of her bestselling novel, The Murder Game. Since Julie doesn’t know anyone in her new town, when she meets her neighbor John Dunbar, their instant connection brings measured hope for a new beginning. But she never imagines that a simple, benign conversation with him could set her life spinning so far off course.

After a series of misunderstandings, Julie and her family become the target of increasingly unsettling harassment. Has Julie’s stalker found her, or are her neighbors out to get her, too? As tension in the neighborhood rises, new friends turn into enemies, and the results are deadly.

Review

I won copy of Catherine’s very first book years ago.  I fell in love with her then and I am still!! And her writing has changed from a chick lit to a literary fiction/thriller. She has really out done herself with the one though.  I thought her first novel Spin would always be my favorite but, I was mistaken.

Julie is a famous  author with a stalker. She moves across country to start fresh. Needless to say, this does not turn out the way she hoped. She moves her family to Cincinnati with great expectations.  These expectations are very quickly quelled and plain squashed. She becomes a pariah on her own street.

Catherine Mckenzie really knows how to weave a tale and keep you guessing. I will be honest, I really had no idea where this book was leading until almost the very end. There were many places I thought, “have I missed something?” But, the more the tale unfolded the more I was addicted. And I means addicted. This reads like a psychological thriller with a massive twist. So keep reading….this book has a kick at the end!

I would absolutely love a sequel. There were many items left unanswered, as per the authors whim. For fans of Girl on the Train…..this one is for you!!

I received this novel from Netgalley for a honest review.

Denial by Lisa Renee Jones AND Demand by Lisa Renee Jones

Overview

Book one in the CARELESS WHISPERS series. This is a standalone spin-off of the INSIDE OUT series (soon to be a TV show) that follows Ella Ferguson, Sara McMillan’s best friend.

Ella Ferguson awakes alone in Italy, unsure of who she is, and a gorgeous man has claimed her as his own. He’s tall, dark, and sexy, with money and power, the kind of man who makes a girl want to be possessed. And he does possess her, whispering wicked wonderful promises to her, stealing her trust and her heart. Soon though, the past finds her, yanking her from a cocoon of passion and safety. Everything is not how it seems. The truth will shatter her world, but it can set her free, if it doesn’t destroy her first.

Overview

The sexy, breathtaking mystery continues in New York Times and USA TODAY bestselling author Lisa Renee Jones’s stunning second novel in the suspenseful Careless Whispers series—where shocking revelations will reveal themselves and nothing, and no one, will ever be the same.

Still struggling with amnesia, Ella questions everything she’s known about Kayden Wilkens—the alluring stranger who claims to have found her unconscious in an alleyway a month earlier. But was he truly a stranger—or did Kayden know her before his supposed rescue? Tormented by the potential betrayal he denies, with fleeting memories of a bombshell in her recent past, Ella must face a hard reality. Every action has consequences . . . and trusting Kayden, the one thing she most desires, might result in the direst consequences of all.

New York Times and USA TODAY bestselling author Lisa Renee Jones, whose searing novels generate “enough heat . . . to start a fire” (RT Book Reviews), dares you to fall in love with her irresistibly surprising and sexy new series.

Review

Let me start by saying romantic suspense is a guilty pleasure!!! These books are perfect mix of both. I am officially addicted to this series. Plus, I have found a new author…and who doesn’t love to do that!!!

Kayden is a definite “sex on a stick”! Ella is a strong female lead to his immense masculinity.  What a splendid couple. As I always say…they heat up the pages nicely. So nicely in fact, it is hard to quit thinking about them and where their story is leading.

Kayden rescues Ella late one evening when he discovers her injured on the streets. Ella has no recollection of who she is or how she got there. As she is trying to recover her memory many flashbacks occur. These are as confusing and they are helpful. Is she part of the Italian mafia, is she an enemy of Kayden, has she been a victim of sex trafficking? These are just a few of the many things she could be.

I am NOT waiting patiently for the next in this series. I need to know who Ella is and did she know Kayden before he found her.

Just an FYI, do not read Demand without reading Denial first. Demand is really not a stand alone read. It is a continuation of the story in Denial. And what a great story it is. I cannot wait for Ella to get her memory back.

I received these novels from Simon and Schuster as part of XOXperts

Yeager’s Mission by Scott Bell

Yeager’s Mission

By Scott Bell

Genre: Thriller, Suspense

After a number of earthquakes hammer the Sierra Madre region of Mexico, Grupo Verdugo, a splinter group of cartel enforcers, takes control of the drug shipping routes through that territory. Caught in the middle, a small orphanage high in the mountains, desperate for supplies to care for the children and the battered earthquake victims, reaches out to Abel Yeager for help.

Yeager and his friend Victor agree to deliver the needed food and medicine. But Grupo Verdugo seems to have a special interest in starving out the clergy and forcing them to bend to their will. They send a man known as the Executioner to stop anyone daring to assist the people.

Yeager and Victor are in for the biggest fight of their lives as they are forced to move forty children, a dozen sick and injured patients, and one feisty doctor out of the mission and through mountains infested with vicious killers.

Review

I fell in love with Yeager in his first book  Yeager’s Law. You can read my review here.

This novel did not dissappoint. Sometimes the second novels tend to drift off. This one is true to form and kept me in love with the strong, silent Marine, Yeager.

Yeager is determined to help the orphans affected by the earthquake. Due to some drug cartel issues, this may be a problem. This does not stop him!! (As you would guess). He just keeps giving as good as he gets!

This book never lets up. Action-packed, humorous,  scary, and full of adrenaline, this novel has it all…and did I mention Yeager….he is one tough cookie and FINE! *sigh*

I received this novel for a honest review.

I Will Send Rain by Rae Meadows

Overview

Annie Bell can’t escape the dust. It’s in her hair, covering the windowsills, coating the animals in the barn, in the corners of her children’s dry, cracked lips. It’s 1934 and the Bell farm in Mulehead, Oklahoma is struggling as the earliest storms of The Dust Bowl descend. All around them the wheat harvests are drying out and people are packing up their belongings as storms lay waste to the Great Plains. As the Bells wait for the rains to come, Annie and each member of her family are pulled in different directions. Annie’s fragile young son, Fred, suffers from dust pneumonia; her headstrong daughter, Birdie, flush with first love, is choosing a dangerous path out of Mulehead; and Samuel, her husband, is plagued by disturbing dreams of rain.

As Annie, desperate for an escape of her own, flirts with the affections of an unlikely admirer, she must choose who she is going to become. With her warm storytelling and beautiful prose, Rae Meadows brings to life an unforgettable family that faces hardship with rare grit and determination. Rich in detail and epic in scope, I Will Send Rain is a powerful novel of upheaval and resilience, filled with hope, morality, and love.

Review

First of all…this cover is amazing. Perfectly matched to the story.

Annie Bell and her family are in the middle of the dust bowl just struggling to survive.  Her family is falling apart. With a few bad decisions, it is a battle whichever way they turn.

This is a read you will not soon forget. It is a powerful tale about the hardships of life. The feelings this book creates are unforgettable.   It’s like you are there experiencing the dust, drought and hunger. The characters are tough as nails but create an amazing bond with the reader. Will the family survive or will they do as many others and uproot and move west?

The author did a superb job describing the dust and it’s aftermath. I just couldn’t imagine fighting that battle along with a drought and outlandish heat. The way each character reacts to these trials is a story in and of itself. Each one react differently and with great consequences. This is a story which stays with you days after you have finished.

Don’t think this story does not jerk a tear either. Believe me, it does!! I do not want to give away a spoiler, just letting you know to be prepared!

I would love a sequel to this tale. It would be great to hear if some of the bad decisions actually turn out ok.

I received this novel from the publisher for a honest review.

My Sweet Audrina AND Whitefern by V.C.Andrews #XOXperts

Overview

V.C. Andrews, author of the phenomenally successful Dollanganger series, has created a fascinating new cast of characters in this haunting story of love and deceit, innocence and betrayal, and the suffocating power of parental love.

Audrina Adare wanted so to be as good as her sister. She knew her father could not love her as he loved her sister. Her sister was so special, so perfect — and dead.

Now she will come face to face with the dangerous, terrifying secret that everyone knows. Everyone except…

My Sweet Audrina

Overview

The long-awaited sequel to My Sweet Audrina, one of V.C. Andrews’s strangest, most beloved books—and now a Lifetime movie! Whitefern swallowed Audrina’s childhood—and now the sprawling Victorian mansion threatens her adult life too…

Audrina remembers a better time, when her husband, Arden, was a young man with a heart filled with devotion for her. He didn’t used to be this ambitious, expansive…this cruel. But then, the death of Audina’s father changed a great many things.

When the reading of her father’s will reveals that Audrina herself will control fifty-one percent of the family brokerage—the halls of Whitefern again don’t feel safe. Arden’s protestations become frantic, nearly violent. And while Audrina didn’t anticipate running the family business, she’s curious to do so. And she can’t help but wonder what had made her father change his will at the last minute? What did he know about Arden that she didn’t?

Trapped in the middle of it all: her fragile, simple sister—the beautiful, trusting Sylvia. Audrina promised her father she’d watch over the young woman. But after years of relative quiet, the dark days of Whitefern may have returned…

Review

I have not read V.C. Andrews since high school and Flowers in the Attic (didnt everyone read this one!)  And since I have been in a small reading slump lately and what better than V.C Andrews to pull me out.

These books had me engrossed from the very start. Between the eerie house with the locked doors and strange places, to the  weird characters like Vera with her brittle bones and her Femme Fatale ways…this is V.C Andrews at its best.  The way these characters interact are unique and bizarre. Their deviant behavior just amazed me from the very first word.

The family is exactly what you expect from one of these books, weird, strange and downright creepy especially with their family secrets and lies! It is psychological drama that lures the reader in with the expectations for more darkness and creepiness.  And did I mention the house…yes…I did…the house..I want to explore so badly!!

I did find Whitefern a little less enchanting than My Sweet Audrina. I don’t know if I read them too close together or if my expectation was too much. But, I found that Audrina was a little more strange than in the first book, almost too whiney for my taste. I also caught a few errors and the story and the characters were a little flat and did not  capture my attention like the first book.

What a psycho, abnormal gothic horror series. The foreboding atmosphere create a strange, odd  world to totally get lost in. I cannot wait to see what weirdness the next installment will take.

Benjamin’s Field: Rescue’ has been awarded a five-star review by the literary site ‘Reader’s Favorite’ (readersfavorite.com).

Benjamin’s Field follows a rural farm family over the course of sixty years from the viewpoint of the youngest member, Jeremy Kyner. Beginning with America’s entry into World War I, Jeremy and his family are followed through war, peace, triumph, tragedy, heartbreak, and final happiness as the reader examines the role of family loyalty versus individual need, personal liberty and how it relates to society’s demands, religious prejudice, racism, intolerance, the role of charity, and the overwhelming need for humans to forgive one another. In Book One, “Rescue,” a widowed farmer suffers an unspeakable loss during World War I. Burdened with grief, he learns from his nemesis, a dogmatic Catholic priest, that his son’s fiance has given birth to their crippled child. Unable to cope with the child’s deformity and confounded by his illegitimate birth, the farmer is battered by those closest to him with accusations of cruelty and intolerance until he finally reveals his true feelings and the reasons underlying his apparent bigotry. Set in a historical context, Benjamin’s Field is a compelling story about human dignity overcoming adversity, prejudice, and hatred. Interwoven with lighter moments, this dramatic and moving tale will take the reader on an emotional and sometimes humorous journey.”
